Get to know trumpet player and Yamaha Artist Javier González
How does your instrument improve your daily life as a musician?
All three of my Yamaha trumpets give me the reliability and sound I'm looking for.
What are the most outstanding features of your instrument?
Above all, it's how easy it is to play, because it's such a high-quality, versatile instrument. Every day, it feels as if I'm able to work on my own development, rather than making the instrument work.
When did you first come across Yamaha?
I switched all my trumpets to Yamaha around 12 years ago. I came across them when I was looking for instruments that both produce a strong, natural-sounding tone and are easy to play. For me, Yamaha is the brand that best brings together all of these qualities.
Which musician has influenced you the most in your music career? Are you still following any of their advice?
It's impossible for me to choose just one — there's two people I have to mention. There's Diego Cebrián, my first ever teacher, who was the one who introduced me to the trumpet and really passed on his passion and love for the instrument. Then, when I arrived in Madrid, the person who helped and guided me the most, both in the studio and in terms of work, was fellow Yamaha Artist César Asensi, who I'm fortunately still learning from and enjoying today.
Both musicians have helped define my career and inspired me, both in the past and the present, and I'm sure they'll continue to do so in the future.
What advice would you give to a musician who is just starting out in their career?
To enjoy it. Enjoy the music. While it's a profession that may come with sacrifices, it's also one that is incredibly beautiful and fulfilling, both in terms of teaching and playing. If you're able to make a living from it, you'll no doubt be rewarded.
